Unique restaurants, shops, orchards, wineries, antiques, and historic gems surround the Caldwell House Bed and Breakfast, located in the historic Hudson Valley of New York. All kinds of art are highly celebrated in our area in our as well and this provides various activities to do and places to visit. One very special place that just happens to be only five minutes away from us is the Storm King Art Center.
The Storm King Art Centerin Mountainville, NY is the largest outdoor sculpture park in America. Founded opened in 1960, this 500-acre park provides a landscape of rolling hills, beautiful fields and woodlands – the perfect setting for a collection of over 120 sculptures. It is committed to modern art and the pieces placed directly in the landscape each tell a story of their own.
The arrival of spring means that Storm King opens its doors once again, on April 2, 2014 specifically. A much anticipated day is coming though—on May 3, 2014, “Milly’s Temple” will be revealed, which is a 17-foot tall wooden structure by Zhang Huan that will be on view for the first time ever. To give you an idea about the true scope of these amazing sculptures, another piece from Huan called “Three Legged Buddha” had to come to New York by ship in five different sections. The 28-foot tall copper and steel structure weights more than 12 tons and is a favorite of many who visit the park. This special place is a peaceful sanctuary that truly celebrates the relationship between art and nature. This year you may also see blooming wildflowers in the native grasses throughout the park. Storm King appeals to visitors of all ages and is one place you do not want to miss if you will be visiting the Hudson Valley.

After a day at Storm King, grab a bite at Bella Luna Italian Restaurant or Loughran’s Irish Pub, two great places also around the corner from The Caldwell Housebefore coming home for a relaxing stay at our bed and breakfast.
