A Day in the Life of a Caldwell House Guest – Friday

TGIF! Thank goodness it’s Friday! Supposedly, rumor has it that the term TGIF was coined in the early 1970’s by Jerry Healey, an Ohio disc jockey. Nowadays, it is associated with the feeling of glee as the work week comes to an end and the promise of the weekend lies ahead. It is often part of “happy hour” conversations where families, friends and coworkers meet up to celebrate together.

Every day here at The Caldwell House in Salisbury Mills, NY brings a reason to be happy but there is something special about Fridays and there certainly is no shortage of great fun to be had should you be a guest starting out your weekend here with us. We have had a lot of fun producing this, “A Day in the Life” series for several weeks now, giving you an inside look into the types of fun our Caldwell House guests experience during their stay. Today, we explore Friday so keep on reading and get ready to mark your calendar for your next trip here because you will want to stop by after you read about all that is going on around here!

Our guests, whom we like to consider family, are always met with a friendly hello

and smile each morning as we serve a delicious gourmet breakfast. You will come down to our dining room and be treated by a homemade, delicious meal made with love by our own inn owner Dena Finneran. To tempt your taste buds a bit, you may be treated with a meal of poached pears, fresh Irish soda bread (an absolute favorite among guests!), strawberry scones and Irish French toast casserole with ham. It is hands down the best way to start the day!

Just a few minutes away is the Storm King Art Center–this is one of the world’s leading sculpture parks. Over 100 fascinating sculptures can be found across the 500 acres of beautiful landscape in this park. You can take a self-guided tour by foot, bicycle or tram and then enjoy lunch at the Storm King Café. Be sure to ask us for 1/2 priced coupons before you go.

After a day exploring this incredible art center, The Canterbury Brook Inn in Cornwall, NY is a great place to stop for dinner. Be sure to try the Wienerschnitzel and the Duckling and you absolutely must leave room for dessert. The Coup Denmark and the Chocolate Fondue are incredible. Your relaxing room at The Caldwell House awaits should you be ready to turn but if you have just a bit more zeal left, make your way over to 2 Alices Coffee Lounge in Cornwall on Hudson–it is a fun place with live music and karaoke.
