A Day in the Life of a Caldwell House Guest – Sat & Sun

As owners of The Caldwell House, surrounded by the rich history of the Hudson Valley area, we know how blessed we are to have our special bed and breakfast located in such a beautiful area that has so much to offer. Never ending options for outdoor activities, historical places to visit, museums to explore, world famous places to shop and great restaurants to try are reasons why we see guests from all over the world all year long.

We wanted to share with you what makes the Hudson Valley so special and after years of helping guests plan adventures and memories to last a lifetime, we created this series to give you a glimpse into, “A Day in the Life of a Caldwell House Guest.” Each day we shared an “itinerary” of what you might experience should you be staying with us. We described many things our guests have done in the past, of which they spoke very highly and other things that we would recommend should you be coming for a visit.

Today we find ourselves planning an action packed and fun-filled weekend! Who doesn’t love a whole weekend to explore and relax? There is almost too much to pick from if you will be with us on a Saturday and Sunday but we’ll highlight some favorites and we’ll let you fill in the rest if you are up for more!

We love Saturday mornings and owner Dena Finneran makes it extra special with a breakfast in the dining room that just starts the day off right. You may be treated to stuffed pear, cherry chocolate chip bread and Dijon eggs with hashbrowns –a delicious and hearty meal that gets you ready for the day ahead. One of the most popular destinations for those that would consider themselves wine connoisseurs or just want to learn more about the world of wine is the Shawangunk Wine Trail. This wine trail is home to 14 wineries found between the Shawangunk Mountains and the Hudson River.

The Hudson Valley is America’s oldest wine making and grape-growing region and the trail hosts some of the best wine in the area. The Brotherhood Winery – only 1.5 miles from the Inn – is a particularly fun place and during the tasting flight you may even hear that the Riesling is served at the White House! Palaia Vineyards, just a few miles down the road, has live music every weekend and a great place to relax and taste some fantastic wine.

After a day of traveling the wine trail, head back home to The Caldwell House but stop for dinner at one of our favorites: Bella Luna Italian Restaurant or Vininum Café Restaurant & Wine Bar. Save a little bit of room for some desert, Weir’s Ice Cream – just a half mile away – has the best you’ll ever have!

After a splendid night of restful sleep in your suite, you will once again be treated by a lovely Sunday morning breakfast that may include curried fruit, homemade cherry pop tarts and Dena’s Special French Toast with sausage (should you have any dietary restriction – no problem, just let us know so we can have the freshest ingredients available). If you are on the hunt for old treasures, antiquing in Warwick is the way to go. Check out the cute little old town shops and the Warwick Antique Barn. After that take a trip over to Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery, also on the Shawangunk Wine Trail, and one of five wineries in the Warwick area. Pané Café’ is a wonderful restaurant on the Warwick Valley Winery grounds to stop for a late lunch.

In the late afternoon, the Bethel Woods Center is a fun place to stop. It is the site of the 1969 Woodstock festival and there is a great museum to tour before taking in one of their fantastic performances. You can then cap the night off with dinner at The Dancing Cat Salon that is next door to the Catskill Distilling Company. It is a fantastic restaurant with a fun, relaxing atmosphere.

Now that is a jam-packed weekend! It truly is just a sliver of what our area has to offer–you simply need to come and check it out for yourself!
