Holiday Happenings in the New York Hudson Valley

What do you find works best to get you into the holiday spirit? Perhaps it is hearing the music begin playing in rotation on the radio, the gifts that start lining the stores, the lights that pop up around your neighborhood or the chance to make your favorite holiday treats. We love the Christmas season at The Caldwell House – we meet guests from all over the country during every season but there is something special about Christmas. We take the opportunity to decorate our bed and breakfast so you walk into a cozy home away from home full of holiday spirit. In addition, there is so much to take in around the Hudson Valley so you won’t have a shortage of things to do should you be planning a getaway in the next while.

Sinterklaas! An Old Dutch Tradition – December 6th, 2014 in Rhinebeck, NY. A day long festival that honors Dutch traditions with dance, theatre, and music all over the village.

Christmas Parades – The 2014 Washingtonville Christmas Parade will be December 6th, 2014 and begin at 6pm from Ahern Blvd. The annual tree lighting ceremony will follow and take place in the center of the village. The Cornwall Parade will be December 7th, 2014. Horse drawn carriage will go up and down Main Street followed by the tree lighting ceremony. Santa will even be using The Caldwell House sleigh!

Holiday Market – December 7-8, 2014 at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, NY. Finish up your holiday shopping with over artists, crafters, and specialty food vendors.

Nights of 10,000 Lights at Boscobel – This mansion in Garrison, NY that overlooks the Hudson River will be open for six special evenings in December. Explore candlelit paths and thousands of lights that will be illuminating the gardens and grounds. Optional twilight tours of the mansion will also be available. Open December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21 from 5-9pm.

Christmas with the Ellisons – December 13th, 2014. Tour the elegant 1754 historic house at Knox’s Headquarters by candlelight. Interact with costumed staff and marvel at the 18th century holiday decorations—in Vails Gate, NY.

A Frosty Fest – through December 22nd, 2014 in Ulster Park, NY. Enjoy Candy Cane Lane, Frosty’s Enchanted Forest, Visits with Santa, stage shows, and more.

Holidays Lights in Bloom – through December 29th, 2014 at the Orange County Arboretum in Thomas Bull Memorial Park – Montgomery, NY

Ice Skating at Bear Mountain State Park – Through March 1st, 2015. Rink is outdoors and lessons and refreshments are available.

Dance of the Lights – November 28th-December 24th, 2014 on the front of Canal Towne Emporium in Wurtsboro, NY. Watch an incredible computerized holiday display of over 7,500 Christmas lights that are set in motion and synchronized with holiday music favorites.

We could go on and on about all of the amazing things happening around the Hudson Valley this holiday season.
