Explore the Art of Glass Making at Gillinder Glass

Have you ever had one of those moments where you went down the road less traveled, stopped at a unique local place, or tried a different adventure and at the end were so glad you did? Sometimes, it is when you get off the beaten path that you find the true treasures in life. There are so many fantastic things to do in the Hudson Valley but we want to share a little treasure with you and it is the one and only Gillinder Glass in Port Jervis, NY.

This amazing company started 153 years ago by William T. Gillinder. In 1876 Gillinder put a large stake in the ground as his plant was a part of the Centennial Exhibition in the World’s Fair in Philadelphia.  Admiring visitors became quick fans and the name became a household regularity as Gillinder pieces were collected as works of art. In 1912, three grandsons took the glass factory to Port Jervis, NY and to this day it is still operated on the same site. Now, it is a sixth generation member of the family who runs it all and continues to create eye-catching, exquisite glass creations with a combination of old family techniques and today’s most state-of-the-art technology. A little “did you know?” fact is that about 50% of all airport runway lights in the US are made at this factory.

Under an hour away from this factory you will also find The Caldwell House, a luxuriously comfortable bed and breakfast that will make your time in the Hudson Valley extra special. Relax in a cozy room at the end of the day and enjoy a delectable three-course breakfast in the morning before you head off for another day of exploring. Spring is here, summer is coming and with all that there is to do in the Hudson Valley, start planning your getaway now!
