When you think back to your time in school, is there a teacher that sticks out in your mind? One that went the extra mile, made things fun and creative and has a special spot in your heart? Teaching is one of the most demanding, exhausting, challenging yet rewarding professions and teachers are not always honored for all that they do. Teachers really are heroes and here are a few statistics that show why:
  • Teachers spend around $1.5 Billion a year of their own money on school supplies.
  • 67% of teachers use their own money to buy snacks to supplement their student’s nutrition.
  • 1 in 3 teachers purchase basic clothing items to help their students.
  • More than half of teachers step in and pay for field trip costs when students can’t afford them.
So, what can we do to make sure teachers know how much they are appreciated? For one you can thank any teacher that has made a difference in your life. The Caldwell House Bed and Breakfast decided to team up with to create a Travel for Teachers program as a way to give back. Since the summer is when many teachers have the chance to take a breather, we are offering a third night free when you reserve two nights at the Caldwell House. It can be any day between Sunday and Wednesday and will be open for use during July and August 2014.
