Hudson Valley Winter Weekend Getaway

Updated December 2022

There are still many fun and intriguing things to do with or without snow for a Hudson Valley winter weekend getaway. Let’s go day by day to give you an idea of some of the activities available around our area. If for some reason, you don’t see something that sounds super fun, or if you have a question, by all means, call us! We would love to help you plan your escape from the ordinary. Having lived in the Hudson Valley for quite a while, we always have our finger on the pulse of what is going on!

Arrival | Friday Evening

You may be able to scoot away from work or other obligations to arrive after 2 pm and enjoy some fun during the afternoon. If not, no worries, our contactless check-in process will text you with instructions, so arrive later when it’s convenient for you!

If you are early in the afternoon, take some time to wander around one of our local and small-but-always-interesting small towns. Visit some local shops and galleries in downtown Beacon, NY, followed by dinner at one of the many restaurants.

If you get in a little later, relax in your well-appointed room (which did you choose: a room in the Main House close to the historic common rooms, a luxury room in the Connemara House, previously the barn, or the Carriage House, (both of which has a fireplace in every room). Stop next door for dinner at Loughran’s Irish Pub.

Day 2 | Saturday

Enjoy a relaxing night’s rest in the comfort of our luxurious linens, and have breakfast delivered to your door at 9 am. Take your time and relish our locally grown specialties and premium coffee while planning the rest of your day. There are several choices, depending on your preferred level of activity.

Visit the Storm King Art Center

The Storm King Art Center is open on the weekends in the winter — but wear warm layers as you’ll be spending time outside. This 500-acre marvel has about 115 large-scale sculptures carefully exhibited in various landscapes. When there is snow on the ground, it makes the installations seem even more spell-binding. We think it is a magical place, but if you want a sneak peek, watch the episode of the “Master of None” series on Netflix (Season 2, Episode 9).

While you’re in Cornwall visiting the Storm Center, take some time to stroll downtown if you are a fan of HGTV’s Hometown Kickstart — they chose Cornwall as one of four small towns for renovations.

Take a Tour of West Point

Another iconic site very close to us is West Point Academy, a truly fantastic area to tour. You will need to reserve a tour in advance to go on the grounds. There are several tours to choose from, one of which centers on the academy’s history, starting in the Revolutionary War, and its part in training leaders. Another option is the cemetery tour, which points out the prominent figures laid to rest and the history surrounding them. If you are a sports fan, pick up some tickets for a home game or match.

Visit the Walkway Across the Hudson

Depending on where you are in the day and how early you started, the Walkway over the Hudson State Park is a must-see for extraordinary views of the Hudson River. At 1.28 miles in length, it is the world’s longest elevated pedestrian bridge and allows you to see several miles up and down the Hudson River. It is open daily from sunrise to sunset, and at either end of the walkway are miles of trails and parks, historic districts to explore, shops, and restaurants.

Alternative Day: Skiing, Snowboarding, or Skating

If a winter weekend to you means getting out on the snow or ice, we also have some more active options! There are several outdoor skating rinks, tubing, and skiing options in the area, only about a half-hour drive from our inn.

Time for Dinner

After this full day, you will want to celebrate with a marvelous dinner. A guest favorite is Blu Pointe in nearby Newburgh, with picturesque views of the Hudson River. However, we have several other exceptional restaurants in the area.

Day 3: Sunday

Your morning begins with another tasty breakfast delivered to your room. Depending on how much time you need to get home, after check out at 11 am, you can cover any of the Saturday suggestions you missed or, visit a few wineries on your way out of town.

Visit the Brotherhood Winery or the Shawangunk Wine Trail

Depending on your favorite adult libation, we have wineries, cideries, breweries, and distilleries! Pick which you prefer, and plan a stop at one or more for tastings and maybe some bottles to bring home as a remembrance of your getaway.
