Big Band Concert & Sunset Picnic at Boscobel House

It won’t be long until the breeze shifts to bring cooler air and the leaves start to turn their vibrant colors. Until that happens though, there is still time to fit in some summer fun! The Boscobel House and Gardens in Garrison, NY is hosting its 14th Annual Big Band Concert & Sunset Picnic on September 7th, 2014.

If you have never been able to sit and enjoy the musical giftedness of a “Big Band” you are in for a treat! The Big Band sound, which comes from a group of around 12-25 musicians incorporates a lot of jazz and swing with the use of percussion, brass and woodwind instruments. It is a style of music that is happy, fun and that gets your toes tapping. You’ll be brought right back into the sounds of Count Basie, Glenn Miller, and Duke Ellington.

The Boscobel House is a restored Federal-period house that is exquisitely decorated and has breathtaking views of the majestic Hudson River. The great lawn outside the house makes the perfect setting for this end-of-summer celebration. You can pack your own picnic basket and have dinner on the lawn or they are also offering a variety of wraps and salads prepared by Hudson Hil’s Café or brats and burgers from Phil’s Grills hotdog stand. You get to relax in a beautiful setting and enjoy an outdoor picnic with fantastic music to serenade you. Owners and students of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio will also be on hand to give swing dance demonstrations so be sure to bring a partner who is up for some twirling and shaking!
