Green Practices at The Caldwell House Bed & Breakfast

The list of environmentally friendly practices in use at The Caldwell House Bed & Breakfast is long, ranging from the use of compact fluorescent bulbs and solar power to the donation and recycling of old towels and bar soaps. The B&B also recycles guest and office products.

Some of the eco-friendly efforts that are being practiced include:

  •  We've gone Solar in a big way. We anticipate being able - over the course of the year - to produce more power than we use!!!
  • Use of compact fluorescent bulbs, where possible
  • Use of timers throughout common areas
  • Purchase and use of energy efficient appliances
  • Donation of old towels to local Animal Shelters and unclaimed guest items to Goodwill
  • Recycling of newspapers, plastic, glass and metals; housekeepers trained to remove recyclable goods from common trash in rooms (i.e. newspapers, plastic bottles, soda cans)
  • Individual energy efficient air conditioning and heat in guest rooms
  • Use of bulk amenity dispensers for soap, shampoo and conditioner in each guest bathroom
  • Recycling/Donation of used bar soap to Clean the World
  • Linen Program – change sheets every 3 days, at checkout or upon request
  • Towel Program – change towels upon request by guest and at checkout
  • Purchase locally grown products and bulk products where possible
  • Re-use and recycle plastic bags and the use of reusable cloth bags for groceries
  • Recycle paper and office products and recycle used print cartridges
  • Motion sensor outdoor lighting, where practical
  • Collection of all kitchen food and scraps, along with coffee waste to compost.
