One of the great parts about being owners of a bed and breakfast is that we get to share our love for and knowledge of the Hudson Valley with our guests. We get to share the history of our special place, The Caldwell House, and offer guidance of our favorite places to go and things to do.
When you are out and about, whether a resident of the area or a visitor in for a getaway, one of the decisions that can be difficult to make is where to eat. There are so many incredible, award-winning spots at which to dine no matter what you are in the mood for—the choices are truly endless. We have some great places close to our bed and breakfast such as Loughran’s Irish Pub, Vinum Cafe and Bella Luna but if you are up for a short road trip to Poughkeepsie, NY there is a fantastic Parisian restaurant called Brasserie 292 that is worth checking out.
Brasserie 292 is a special fine dining restaurant with old-world charm that is both elegant, yet comfortable. The genuine French cuisine is creative, unique and of course, delicious. Their philosophy is to “use fine, local ingredients coupled with traditional cookery to create an incomparable and exceptional dining experience.” Their dedication to creating delicious food combined with a staff that is attentive and friendly provides for a wonderful dining experience whether you are there for a romantic night out, a birthday party, or a business luncheon. You can enjoy brunch, lunch, dinner or just dessert and the menus are extensive. Favorites include their famous pommes frites, blue point oysters, butternut squash risotto, and steak au poivre. You must leave room for dessert—the profiteroles with pumpkin gelato and chocolate sauce, honey ricotta cheesecake, and milk chocolate pot de crème with salted caramel are each divine. This restaurant is a jewel in a great, historic town worth trying out.
We don’t really think you need an excuse to come visit the Hudson Valley and The Caldwell House – any time of year is beautiful here and there is always a myriad of events going on, things to do, great shopping, and fun outdoor activities. Valentine’s Day is also around the corner—call and ask us about our Happy Hour with live music and hors d’oeuvres on February 14th, 2015 and our special Romance Package!
