St. Patrick’s Day Parades in the Hudson Valley

Rich in Irish history, the Caldwell House Bed and Breakfast in Salisbury Mills, NY is the perfect place to spend a weekend celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. When it comes to this holiday many think of wearing green, shamrocks and leprechauns, dinners of corned beef and cabbage, and getting pinched! You can’t forget the festivities around town—there are some great St. Patrick’s Day parades happening nearby for guests looking to join in the fun.

First up is the Mid Hudson St. Patrick’s Day Parade taking place in Goshen, NY, just 20 minutes from our bed and breakfast. Happening March 15th, this parade started in 1976 and has been gracing the streets of Goshen for the last 15 years. The parade will begin at 2pm with the route beginning at at the Orange County Government Center exiting onto Scotchtown Avenue and then left onto Murray Avenue. Click here for further information about the route and other festivities happening this day.

Another option for our guests is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Shamrock Dash happening in Wappingers Falls, NY, on March 7th. Just a little over a half-hour away from our bed and breakfast, this parade will begin at 1pm and route information can be found here. You can also choose to participate in the Shamrock Dash just before the parade – a 1.4-mile run through the Village of Wappingers Falls. There are prizes for best costumes and the first three finishers.

At the end of the day before heading back to our home, have a dinner out or night cap at Loughran’s Irish Pub – “the Hudson Valley’s Happiest Irish Pub,” which is literally next door. If you happen to be here on Thursday you can listen to live Irish Music performed by The Parting Glass – a guaranteed great time!

Grandma Finneran’s Irish Soda Bread

We treat each and every guest that comes through the door of the Caldwell House Bed and Breakfast like family. Every morning a full three-course breakfast is cooked and served by owner Dena Finneran in our formal dining room and when the season comes around, guests cannot get enough of Grandma Finneran’s Irish Soda Bread. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day and to pay special tribute to our wonderful Grandma Finneran, we have graciously decided to share her top-secret recipe for Irish Soda Bread. We’d love to know what you think the next time you make it in your own kitchen!
