Are you itching to get the “sticks” out now that spring has arrived? That wonderful smell of the first cut of grass, commercials reminding us that the Masters is just a couple of weeks away, and bright, sunny days beckon us to take that “Great Walk Spoiled!”
 
The Caldwell House Bed and Breakfast, located in the heart of the lower Hudson Valley’s Orange County, is close to many of the area’s best courses. The two courses your Innkeeper, John, likes to play most often are both within 15 minutes of the B&B, In addition to being spectacularly beautiful courses, they both have rich historical significance.
 
 
 

The Storm King Golf Course – A great course for all skill levels with spectacular views of the beautiful Hudson Highlands. This scenic course with its small, undulating greens, opened in 1894, making it one of the oldest golf courses in America. 

 
Arrive in the late afternoon and get a quick 9-holes in or join a pickup game on Saturday and Sunday after Dena’s breakfast. You can finish off your day with a cold beer and a delicious dinner at their elegant restaurant, Annarella’s.This gem of a course is just 10 minutes from The Caldwell House.
 
 
 
 
 
West Point Golf Course – This Robert Trent Jones designed course opened just after the close of World War II. Its breath taking location, on the north end of the USMA Campus nestled between Bear Mountain and the Hudson River, is second to none. Each hole is dedicated to a War or specific battle that West Point graduates fought in. Each hole marker – made out of a huge block of granite – describes the War/Battle it is dedicated for and list the names of some of the famous USMA graduates who fought in them. References to the likes of Lee, Grant, Jackson, MacArthur, Eisenhower, Bradley, and Patton remind you of the incredible part West Point has played in the history of our country.
 
 
      The course, built for Presidents, 5-Star Generals and the USMA 
      Cadets was recently opened to the public and remains a little known jewel. The WPGC is a mountain track with lots of challenging lines 
      and fast greens. It will leave you with lots of wonderful memories, regardless what score you shoot.

The Golf Club at Mansion Ridge – This spectacular par 72 course was designed by Jack Nicklaus in 1999 and is located in Monroe, NY – the Highlands of the Hudson Valley – just 20 minutes away from The Caldwell House. This truly stunning course will challenge your abilities and provide a day on the green you will not forget.

Stony Ford Golf Course & Hickory Hill Golf Course are two Orange County owned public golf courses. For approximately $55 (or less if you are a local resident or senior), you get 18 holes of spectacular golf and a cart. You’ll finish your round saying “I can’t believe this course doesn’t cost four times as much!
 
 
Spook Rock Golf Course – located approximately 30 minutes from the Caldwell House, this is a “must play” course. Golf Digest ranks it in the First 25 of America’s Best Public Courses and various other publications perennially rate it as one of the USA’s top public courses. It is an extremely popular course, so planning ahead for a tee time is a must.
