Below are a few of the popular areas to bike, each one offering a variety of scenic spots, trails and levels of difficulty.
Mohonk Preserve – as the largest private nature preserve in New York State, it offers a host of well-groomed trails to explore. There is a $10 fee and helmets are required. A stop at the historic Mountain House is one great reason to check this place out.
Stewart State Forest– over 8,000 acres of state parkland located in Newburgh, NY, near Stewart Airport that is perfect for mountain biking. There are over a dozen trails to try out and there are a lot of races there throughout the year as well so it’s a popular area to visit.
James Baird State Park – there are about three miles of trails surrounded by forest to explore here. The trails are not too challenging with only a few steep hills and there are plenty of spots to stop for a picnic lunch along the way.
Blue Mountain ReservationBike magazine has actually ranked this spot as one of the 11 best places for bike trails in North America. It is best for the more experienced rider and has more than 40 miles of trail that winds through the forest.
