When you hear the words, “Boot Camp,” you may immediately picture yourself dressed in camouflage and being asked to push your body to its limits during a series of grueling tests and drills. Well, you may find activities like that at West Point in New York but in this case, we are referring to a culinary boot camp.
The Culinary Institute of America offers the CIA Boot Camp, something they call the “ideal food and wine vacation.” A lot of the guests that come through the Caldwell House are just like us…we all love to learn new things, challenge ourselves and see all the wonderful experiences this great area has to offer. Whether you are a true “foodie” or not, these boot camp classes are sure to offer a great time. Learn new skills, make new friends, and perhaps start the beginning of a new passion that you can take with you!
These classes take place at the CIA location in Hyde Park and you can take your pick between a two, three, four, or five-day boot camp class. You don’t have to show up with anything but a willingness to learn and a love for food—which all of us have if we admit it! If you think you may try out more than one, it is encouraged that you start out with the basic or skill development class. You will be served breakfast and lunch and in some cases a delicious dinner as well on the day of your class.
Some examples of the boot camps offered include Grilling and BBQ, Holiday, Hors D’Oeuvre, Dessert, Baking, Bistro, Entertaining, Italian Cuisine, Healthy Cooking, Pastry, Flavors of the Hudson Valley, and more. We may be partial to the last one!
What a great experience if you are up for a new adventure and it’s only a short drive from The Caldwell House Bed and Breakfast, which is a perfect place to call home during your time in the Hudson Valley. Pick a boot camp that is calling your name, pick one of our rooms that suits your style and you are good to go.
