The bald eagle is one of those birds that can truly take your breath away when you see one flying through the air or perched at the top of a tree. It is the only eagle unique to North America and there happen to be a great number that spend the winter along the waterways of the Hudson Valley.
To celebrate this amazing bird the community of Croton-on-Hudson puts on a great event called Teatown’s Hudson River EagleFest at Croton Point Park. This is the 11th anniversary for this successful event and will take place February 7th, 2015 from 9am to 4pm. There will be something for everyone as a variety of activities will take place but the highlight of the day will be the opportunity to visit numerous viewing sites along the Hudson River. There will be bus tours available to take you to each viewing site, which will include Boscobel House and Gardens, New Croton Dam, and the Peekskill Riverfront.
The wonderful part of this viewing site tour is that each place will be staffed with an eagle expert who can answer any questions you may have and will have a spotting scope to help you catch a glimpse of this amazing bird of prey. At each site there will also be a heated tent set up where you can take a break and warm up. There will also be live raptor shows held throughout the day, a variety of children’s activities and food will be provided by the Wobble Café. You can purchase discounted tickets online and parking at the venue is free. Dress for the weather and don’t forget to bring your camera to capture your memories and some great shots of the bald eagle.
