Cross Country Skiing Trails in the Hudson Valley

When it comes to the “white stuff” your response may be, “I am not a winter weather person – how soon until spring?” We can all agree, there are days where the cold and snow increase the temptation to move to Florida but in the Hudson Valley; the beauty of this time of year plus the abundance of great outdoor activities makes up for the not-so-nice days.

Wallkill Valley Rail Trail – Located in New Paltz, NY, this area has a 12.2-mile path perfect for cross-country skiing. You will see some beautiful countryside and downtown.

Mohonk Mountain House Ice – Also in New Paltz, this gorgeous area of the Hudson Valley offers 30 miles of groomed trails for skiing. Sweeping views and the peace and quiet of being in nature make this a memorable spot to go. There is also a ski shop where you can rent skis and

Mohonk Preserve – Linked to the Mountain House, the preserve is located in Gardiner, NY and only a half hour drive from The Caldwell House. You will need to purchase a day pass at the Visitor’s Center for $10 and then you are free to roam. There are over 100 miles of carriage roads and trails and this area will be a bit more rugged as trails are groomed only occasionally. The scenery is spectacular and the landscape offers a challenge for the experienced but also easy places for the novice skier.

After a day on the trails you can come back to your home away from home and enjoy a coffee or glass of wine by the fire or a friendly game in our parlor room.
