Outdoor Skating & Comfort Food Make a Fine Winter Outing

Outdoor white ice rink with several men and women on skates having funBeloved actress and comedian, Lucille Ball, once said, “The secret to staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age.” Life is too short to lose our sense of wonder and adventure don’t you agree? We will all grow older, that’s inevitable, but we can stay young at heart and to do that we need to enjoy life, try new things, or revive the passions of our youth! Ice skating is one of those pastimes that can make you feel like a kid again and we have a wonderful place nearby called the Bear Mountain Ice Rink.

Perhaps you grew up in an area where winter meant being outside—on the sledding hill, on the ice rink playing a pick-up hockey game, or in your front yard building forts and snowmen. As time passes and life’s demands constrict us and encroach on our time to “play” we need to make the effort to stop and smell the roses! In this colder season, maybe that’s a winter wonderland hike, a stroll while window shopping, or having some fun like skiing or skating. Bear Mountain Ice Rink is an outdoor rink that offers public skating sessions throughout the week. It’s only $5 for admission and you can bring your own skates or rent a pair for $5. There are certain holiday hours so be sure to check their website before heading out.

After some time on the rink, you can then head over to Loughran’s Irish Pub, one of our favorite local restaurants that’s just minutes from our bed and breakfast. Weekly specials, a myriad of brews and wines to pick from, open mic and live music nights, and stick to your gut comfort food, makes this a top spot in town.

Come spend a night, a weekend or more with us this season! Cozy up by the fireplace with your favorite book or glass of Hudson Valley wine or stay young at heart with an outdoor adventure! Book online today or contact us anytime for further information.
